Stir Q&A: Violin virtuoso Timothy Chooi sounds off on Vivaldi’s The Four Seasons

Violinist Timothy Chooi will perform Vivaldi’s The Four Seasons with the Vancouver Symphony Orchestra on December 14 and 15 at the Chan Centre for the Performing Arts. A former child prodigy who debuted with the Montreal Symphony at age 16, Chooi is now a professor at the University of Ottawa and an internationally acclaimed soloist.

In a pre-concert interview, Chooi shared that his passion for violin began at age three, inspired by his older brother. He described his deep connection to the violin’s expressive power and technical elegance. Chooi considers The Four Seasons one of his favorite works—a piece that’s both emotionally rich and naturally suited to the violin.

Following the concerts, he’ll be celebrating his birthday on December 17, reflecting on the year’s highlights and looking ahead to new artistic adventures.
